Labuan Bajo, Indonesia<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 The families of the victims of the\u00a0Pinisi Putri Sakinah<\/em>\u00a0ferry sinking <\/a>will receive compensation from the Indonesian state-owned insurer, PT Jasa Raharja. The guarantee extends to both the survivors and the missing members of the Spanish family, including Valencia CF women’s football coach Fernando Mart\u00edn Carreras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sumantri Muhammad Baswan, Head of the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Region for PT Jasa Raharja<\/a>, confirmed the coverage in Labuan Bajo on Tuesday. He explained that the policy applies because the passengers were on a licensed commercial vessel, a form of public transportation covered under Indonesian law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In accordance with our main duties and functions, Jasa Raharja protects all victims of public passenger accidents, in this case including foreign nationals as well,” Sumantri stated. “Because they purchased an official ticket and boarded an official public transport, it falls within the scope of our guarantee.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Compensation Details<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The insurer will provide compensation of Rp 50 million (approximately USD 3,200)<\/strong> for each victim confirmed deceased or officially declared missing after the national search and rescue agency (Basarnas) concludes its operation. This applies to Fernando Mart\u00edn Carreras and his three children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Survivors, including the coach’s wife and youngest daughter, are eligible for medical expense reimbursement up to a maximum of Rp 50 million. “For survivors, we provide replacement of medical costs up to a maximum of Rp 50 million… if the treatment costs Rp 5 million, we give Rp 5 million,” Sumantri clarified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Integrated Insurance System<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Sumantri noted that the passenger insurance premium collection for such vessels is already integrated with the Harbourmaster and Port Authority (KSOP) office through an online booking system. A check confirmed the Putri Sakinah<\/em>‘s insurance coverage was valid at the time of the accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ferry sank on Friday night during a short transit in Komodo National Park. Of the eleven people on board, seven were rescued. The body of one of the coach’s daughters was recovered on Monday, while the search for Fernando and his two sons continues with the aid of underwater drones and sonar equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
