BADUNG, Bali<\/strong> \u2014 A 49-year-old Dutch national was fatally stabbed outside his villa in Bali\u2019s Kerobokan area late Monday night, in a violent attack that police say involved two unidentified assailants and no apparent robbery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The killing, which unfolded over the course of less than an hour, has left investigators searching for answers\u2014and for a motive that remains unclear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Night Walk That Turned Fatal<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The victim, identified by his initials RP, had been walking with his partner near their villa in Banjar Anyar Kelod, North Kuta, when they encountered two men riding a motorcycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to police, the encounter initially appeared incidental. But something about the pair raised alarm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sensing danger, RP instructed his partner, identified as PI, 30, to return to the villa and secure the door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moments later, the situation escalated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two men turned back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They approached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then, without warning, they attacked.<\/p>\n\n\n

A Coordinated Assault<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Police say the attackers\u2014one wearing a ride-hailing jacket, a black helmet, and a blue mask, the other dressed in an orange shirt without a helmet\u2014targeted the victim with a knife in what appeared to be a deliberate assault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As PI fled toward the villa, one of the suspects pursued her, entering the property in an apparent attempt to locate her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unable to find her in the dark, he returned to the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By then, the attack on RP was underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The victim was stabbed repeatedly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a hiding place near a neighboring villa, PI could only watch as the assault continued before the two men fled toward the main road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Witnesses Heard, But Did Not Intervene<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Residents in the area reported hearing cries for help, but few approached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The street was poorly lit. The attackers were armed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the time anyone reached the scene, the suspects had already disappeared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Severe Injuries, No Chance of Survival<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

RP was found with multiple deep wounds across his face, neck, shoulders, arms, and back\u2014injuries that investigators say were consistent with a sustained knife attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but the damage was too severe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was pronounced dead at approximately 11:29 p.m., with police citing significant blood loss as the cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No Signs of Robbery<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

What investigators did not find may be as important as what they did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The victim\u2019s belongings\u2014including his phone, glasses, and personal items\u2014were still at the scene, untouched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For police, that detail immediately ruled out robbery as a primary motive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, the focus has shifted to other possibilities, including targeted violence or a planned attack.<\/p>\n\n\n

Clues Left Behind<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At the scene, investigators recovered several pieces of evidence that may prove critical<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among them: a broken knife blade found near the victim\u2019s body, fragments of a flashlight scattered on the ground, and the victim\u2019s intact personal belongings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CCTV footage has also become a central part of the investigation. Police say the two suspects were seen moving around the area prior to the attack, suggesting a level of intent that goes beyond a chance encounter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Search for Answers\u2014and Suspects<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Authorities from Bali Police, Badung Police, and North Kuta Police have launched a joint investigation and are actively pursuing the two men believed to be responsible.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are currently tracking two suspects who were captured on CCTV moving around the area before the incident,\u201d police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Witnesses, including the victim\u2019s partner, have been questioned as part of the ongoing inquiry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Short Stay, A Violent End<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

According to local residents, RP had only been staying at the villa for less than two weeks, having moved in around March 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was described as living alone and keeping a low profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were no immediate indications of prior conflict or disturbance.<\/p>\n\n\n
