A tourist boat sank in the waters off Sanggar, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), leaving one foreign national injured while all 44 other passengers survived. The vessel had been en route to Labuan Bajo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bima City Police Chief AKBP Mubiarto identified the sunken vessel as the motor boat KLM Armada Mulya, captained by Muhammad Basir, 51, a resident of Pangkep Regency, South Sulawesi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The tourist boat was known to be sailing from Kayangan Port, Lombok, toward Labuan Bajo,” Mubiarto said in a statement Friday, July 17, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the captain’s account, the incident began as the vessel passed through the waters of Sanggar Bay on Thursday night, July 16, at approximately 7:00pm local time. A large wave struck from the north, damaging and puncturing the front and rear sections of the boat’s left hull. Seawater subsequently flooded the vessel, causing it to sink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Upon realizing the boat was sinking, the captain immediately instructed all passengers and crew to put on life jackets and board the lifeboats,” Mubiarto said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Upon receiving reports of the sinking, a joint team comprising the Bima City Police Water and Air Unit (Satpolairud), Bima Police Water and Air Unit, the Harbor Master’s Office, the Navigation District, and Bima SAR deployed lifeboats to the location to carry out the rescue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“At around 5:00am, all 44 passengers and crew were successfully evacuated by the joint team and transferred to a pioneer vessel before being taken to Bima Sea Port,” Mubiarto said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mubiarto said the 44 passengers arrived at Bima Port at approximately 9:30am. They were directed to the Bima Harbor Master and Port Authority (KSOP) office to undergo medical examinations by a medical team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Based on the examinations, all passengers and crew were found to be safe. However, one foreign national among the passengers sustained injuries and was referred to Bima Regional General Hospital (RSUD) for further medical treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Thankfully, all passengers were successfully rescued. However, one person remains under treatment at RSUD Bima due to injuries,” Mubiarto said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
