LABUAN BAJO, Indonesia<\/strong> \u2014 Travelers planning a trip to Indonesia’s world-famous Komodo National Park can once again visit its signature islands after maritime authorities lifted a temporary sailing restriction that had been imposed because of dangerous sea conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beginning Thursday, tourist boats were again cleared to sail to Komodo Island, Padar Island<\/strong>, and other destinations within the UNESCO-listed national park after weather conditions improved sooner than forecasters had expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reopening follows several days of restrictions that had suspended most tourist departures to the park, with only trips to Rinca Island<\/strong> previously allowed while authorities monitored forecasts of strong winds and high waves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The sailing clearance for vessels bound for Komodo National Park can now be issued starting today,” Stephanus Risdiyanto<\/strong>, head of the Class III Harbourmaster and Port Authority (KSOP) in Labuan Bajo, said Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the harbourmaster’s office, the decision came after updated forecasts from Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), combined with direct observations from coastal monitoring stations and reports from vessels already operating in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials said sea conditions improved more quickly than originally forecast, allowing normal passenger services to resume ahead of schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For thousands of international visitors who use Labuan Bajo as the gateway to Komodo National Park, the announcement means postponed itineraries can begin moving again after several days of uncertainty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safety Restrictions Remain in Place<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Authorities emphasized that the reopening does not mean conditions will remain favorable indefinitely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indonesia’s harbourmaster retains the authority to suspend departures again at any time if forecasts indicate unsafe conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Departure permits can be delayed whenever weather conditions are considered unsafe for navigation,” Stephanus said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The warning reflects the reality of sailing through the waters surrounding Komodo National Park during Indonesia’s dry season, when strong seasonal winds can create rough seas despite generally sunny weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
