HEYBALI<\/strong> – For anyone renting a room in one of Bali’s sprawling network of kos-kosan, or boarding houses, near Jimbaran, a recent theft caught on camera serves as an unwelcome reminder that even a locked gate and a shared compound don’t guarantee safety after dark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two men were captured on security footage entering the parking area of a boarding house on Jalan Raya Uluwatu II in Jimbaran<\/a>, South Kuta district, before making off with a resident’s motorbike in the early hours of Monday, August 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Motorbike, Parked and Gone Within Hours<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The victim, identified as Suryati, had parked her motorbike in the boarding house’s designated area around 2 a.m. that Monday. By the time she went to retrieve it roughly nine hours later, intending to run out for food, the bike was simply gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“According to the reporting party, the motorbike was last seen parked at the scene on Monday, August 17, 2026, at approximately 2 a.m. Then around 11 a.m., she intended to retrieve the motorbike to buy food, but it was no longer at its original parking spot,” said Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, public relations chief for Denpasar Metropolitan Police, in a statement Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With no sign of the bike anywhere nearby, Suryati asked around the neighborhood before turning to the boarding house’s own security cameras for answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Footage Shows a Coordinated, Fast-Moving Theft<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

What the CCTV<\/a> revealed was a theft that took only moments to execute. At around 3:18 a.m., roughly an hour after the bike had been parked, two unidentified men appeared on camera. Both wore helmets and dark clothing, a common precaution among motorbike thieves operating in Bali’s residential areas to avoid facial identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One man kept watch from a distance while the other approached the victim’s red Honda Scoopy, parked directly outside her room, and took it. The theft was made easier by one basic vulnerability: the bike’s handlebar lock had not been engaged, allowing the thief to simply wheel it out of the compound without needing to break anything or hot-wire the ignition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
