Bali Community Peace Mediation Case: Why Residents Gathered in Jimbaran
A peaceful demonstration by Jimbaran residents took place on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, following an assault incident in the Puri Gading housing complex. The gathering, held in front of the South Kuta Police Station on By Pass Ngurah Rai, ran from 10.30 to 13.00 WITA and remained orderly throughout, with roughly 500 people joining the action.
The Bali Community Peace Mediation Case began after two local residents were injured in an altercation involving a non-local resident on 29 November. Community leader Dr. I Made Sudira, S.H., M.H. led the demonstration, describing it as a show of solidarity rather than confrontation. The goal was to offer moral support for the victims while encouraging a fair legal process.
Authorities Respond and Call for Calm
Kapolresta Denpasar Kombes Pol. Muhammad Iqbal Simatupang, S.I.K., M.H. met the crowd directly, accompanied by South Kuta Police Chief Kompol I Komang Agus Dharmayana W., S.I.K., as well as traditional and community leaders, including:
- A.A. Made Rai Dirga Arsana Putra, Bendesa Adat Jimbaran
- I Made Sudira, Community Leader
- I Made Tomy Martana Putra, Badung DPRD Member (PDIP)
- I Made, Badung DPRD Member (Golkar)
- Representatives of Desa Adat Jimbaran
During the Bali Community Peace Mediation Case, residents clarified that their action was not anti-migrant. Instead, they emphasized that newcomers must respect local customs, norms, and cultural expectations. They also called for the release of the two Jimbaran residents who were detained after the altercation.
Kapolresta Denpasar thanked the community for expressing their concerns peacefully. He assured the public that the legal process would be handled professionally.
“Thank you for conveying your aspirations peacefully. Trust the police to handle this case fairly and professionally,” he told the crowd.
Inside the Mediation Room: How the Conflict Was Resolved
After the demonstration, community representatives joined a formal mediation facilitated by South Kuta Police. The session allowed both sides to present their version of events and clarify what happened during the altercation.
The Bali Community Peace Mediation Case ended with both parties agreeing to resolve the issue through a family-based settlement. They exchanged apologies voluntarily, without pressure from any side. The agreement was formalized in a joint statement signed in the presence of police mediators.
Outcome of the Mediation
The mediation produced clear resolutions:
- The two Jimbaran residents were released.
- The truck driver involved in the incident will undergo an adat sanction in the form of Guru Piduka, scheduled for 4 December 2025 at the scene of the incident.
- Both parties committed to avoid further conflict.
Community representatives expressed appreciation to the police for creating a calm and neutral mediation environment. They also highlighted the importance of continuous outreach to new residents in Bali, ensuring they understand and respect local customs.
Maintaining Peace Going Forward
The Bali Community Peace Mediation Case shows how community leadership, traditional structures, and law enforcement can work together in resolving conflict without escalation. The peaceful nature of the demonstration reflects Jimbaran’s longstanding commitment to maintaining harmony while protecting the values that shape local life.
Throughout the demonstration, police deployed a combined force from South Kuta Police and the Denpasar Police Department to safeguard the area. No disruptions were reported.
