Local disaster agency records at least seven incidents, including collapsed roads and downed trees, as intense overnight rain disrupts access and damages infrastructure.
BULELENG, Bali — A sudden deluge on Thursday evening triggered a series of disasters across Bali’s northern Buleleng Regency, with local authorities reporting multiple incidents of flooding, landslides, downed trees, and collapsed roadways that cut off access for residents.
Between 6:15 PM and 8:22 PM local time, the Buleleng Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) documented at least seven separate hazard events, according to its Chief Executive, Gede Suyasa. The concentrated rainfall led to significant disruptions in several villages, including a collapsed road in Titab Village, Busungbiu District, and flooding in Sepang Village. Landslides were reported in both Sepang Village and Dadap Putih Village.
“The impacted bridge has been coordinated with the sub-district and village authorities. For now, we are at least installing signs so the public does not pass through that route,” Suyasa stated on Thursday night, noting that assessments and full repairs would follow in daylight.
In a notable incident, a large tree fell across the Trans-Provincial highway, damaging three electricity poles. Suyasa confirmed that a coordinated response involving the state electricity company (PLN), local police, district and village officials, and community members cleared the debris, allowing the vital artery to reopen. Two other tree-fall incidents were also reported.
Authorities also confirmed a report of a private home affected by a landslide in Dadap Putih.
“There is a resident’s house impacted by the landslide. Tomorrow we will go down to the location to conduct an assessment,” Suyasa added.
The agency is currently estimating the total material damage from the events. The incidents highlight the vulnerability of parts of Bali’s northern coast to intense seasonal rainfall, which can quickly saturate the region’s hilly terrain and lead to flash flooding and erosion.
For travelers and residents, the events serve as a reminder to exercise caution on roads in affected areas, particularly during and immediately after periods of heavy rain, and to heed any official warnings or detours.
