A Sanur boat accident on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, prompted a rapid emergency response after the Dolphin II fast boat, en route from Nusa Penida to Sanur Port, capsized and ran aground near the harbor entrance.
According to the Denpasar Search and Rescue Agency (SAR), the incident is believed to have occurred around 3:00 PM local time. The alert was initially received at 4:25 PM from Mr. Putu of Bali’s Provincial Disaster Management Agency (Pusdalops PB).
“In response, we dispatched five SAR personnel to the site, with an additional sea rescue unit deploying via Rigid Inflatable Boat carrying three more members,” said I Nyoman Sidakarya, Head of Denpasar SAR Office.
Search and Evacuation Efforts Underway
As part of the coordinated efforts to handle the Sanur boat accident, the rescue team also prepared thermal drones for possible aerial searches—though the vessel was reportedly not far from the shoreline.
“From videos submitted by bystanders, we saw nearby boats assisting passengers. We remain hopeful that all passengers will be accounted for and safe,” added Sidakarya.
High Waves Complicate Rescue Operation
Eyewitnesses at Matahari Terbit Beach in Denpasar captured footage of the boat overturned amid strong waves, as local residents joined SAR teams to help pull the vessel ashore using ropes.
“The evacuation is ongoing but difficult due to the high surf and the vessel’s weight,” explained SAR responder Wayan Darma.
Casualties and Missing Persons – Sanur Boat Accident
According to Darma, two injured passengers have already been transported to the hospital via ambulance. “Several passengers sustained injuries. Two confirmed victims have been taken to the hospital, though more may be affected,” he stated.
Tragically, it is also feared that some individuals may still be trapped inside the overturned fast boat. “We suspect there may be people still inside the vessel. The rescue operation is continuing,” Darma added.
