A series of incidents in West Manggarai includes a fallen tree damaging a home and motorcycle, as severe weather continues to impact the Komodo region’s gateway.

LABUAN BAJO, Indonesia — Strong winds associated with ongoing severe weather caused multiple trees to fall across Labuan Bajo on Thursday, January 15, 2026, resulting in property damage and significant traffic disruptions in the popular tourist gateway town.

In one incident in the Golo Koe area, a fallen tree landed on a parked motorcycle and caused minor damage to a nearby house. Local resident Rafael confirmed the morning event, noting that the debris had since been cleared. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this or the other related incidents.

The impact was felt more broadly across the town’s infrastructure. Another tree came down on Jalan Puncak Waringin in the Kampung Tengah area, blocking a portion of the roadway during the morning commute.

“The fallen trunk and branches covered part of the road, causing congestion for residents starting their activities,” said AKP I Made Supartha Purnama, Head of Traffic for the West Manggarai Police.

Traffic police officers responded to clear the obstruction, using chainsaws to cut and remove the wood from the street.

The events occurred amid a prolonged period of heavy rain and high winds that has been affecting Labuan Bajo and the surrounding region for several days.

The persistent severe weather underscores the seasonal challenges faced in the area, which serves as the primary departure point for visits to Komodo National Park.

For travelers and residents, the incidents highlight the importance of exercising caution during extreme weather, both on the roads and near potentially vulnerable structures in wooded areas.
