The men were reportedly searching for a cat on a studio rooftop in Badung when the accident occurred, sustaining burns and other injuries.
BADUNG, Bali — Two construction workers were hospitalized on Thursday, January 15, 2026, after suffering an electric shock on the rooftop of a building project in the Badung Regency. Police confirmed both men survived the incident and are receiving treatment at Mangusada Regional General Hospital (RSUD).
The workers, identified as Salis Budiono (36) from Ponorogo Regency and Adit Tiyan Susanto (28) from Surabaya, were reportedly on the second-floor rooftop of the Nailesss Studio project around 10:00 AM local time. According to Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, Acting Head of the Public Information Sub-section for the Badung Police, initial information suggests the men were instructed by a site foreman to check for a cat on the rooftop.
“Both are alive and are already at the hospital,” Inastuti stated.
Sequence of Events and Rescue
A student witness reported seeing the two men near the studio around 9:20 AM. Approximately twenty minutes later, the witness heard a sound of something falling and found Salis Budiono attempting to get up on his own. “The victim was seen still able to attempt to stand up independently,” Inastuti explained.
A foreign national passing by provided initial assistance, offering water to Salis. An ambulance from Pererenan Village arrived shortly before 10:00 AM to evacuate him.
Another witness later discovered the second worker, Adit Tiyan Susanto, lying weak on the rooftop. He was evacuated by the local fire department (Damkar) to the same hospital.
Condition of the Victims
Medical examinations revealed both men sustained injuries from the electrical shock. Salis Budiono suffered burns to his face and body, experienced retrograde amnesia, lost consciousness, and reported pain across all burned areas. He was also unable to lift his left shoulder and elbow or stand. Adit Tiyan Susanto sustained burns to his left shoulder and was reported to be in a state of shock.
The incident underscores the potential hazards present on active construction sites and the critical importance of strict electrical safety protocols. An investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident is ongoing.
