A significant fire ripped through a motorbike rental business on Jalan Drupadi, Seminyak in the early hours of Monday, causing extensive material damage but no injuries.
KUTA, BALI – A motorbike rental shop in the bustling tourist area of Seminyak, Kuta, was severely damaged by a fire in the early hours of Monday, February 9, 2026. The blaze destroyed 14 motorcycles of various popular models but resulted in no fatalities. Police are actively investigating the cause of the incident.
The fire was first spotted around 00:11 AM local time by a security guard at a hotel across the street from the rental business, according to Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, Head of Public Relations for the Denpasar Police. The guard saw flames rapidly intensifying inside the building and immediately alerted colleagues to bring the hotel’s fire extinguishers.
An employee of the rental shop was also on-site at the time, attempting to combat the flames with water. However, the fire proved too strong, resisting efforts even after the use of eight portable fire extinguishers.
The Badung Regency Fire Department was called to the scene, deploying three fire trucks. The fire was finally brought under control and extinguished by approximately 00:58 AM.
The building’s interior and its contents were gutted. The destroyed inventory consisted of a range of motorcycles commonly used by tourists and residents alike, including two Honda Scoopy, three Yamaha NMax, five Honda PCX, and one unit each of a Yamaha Fazzio, Honda Vario 125, an older Honda Vario model, and a Honda ADV.

A significant challenge for investigators in the immediate aftermath has been obtaining a statement from the rental employee who was present during the fire. “The witness at the location, who was the guard for the Bali motorbike rental, cannot be questioned yet because they are in a state of shock,” Adi Saputra explained.
Authorities confirmed that while there was no loss of life, the material loss was substantial. The total financial cost of the damage has not yet been calculated.
For Bali’s visitors and expatriate community, the incident is a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety, particularly in densely populated commercial and tourist zones. It also highlights the operational risks faced by the many rental businesses that form a key part of the island’s transportation infrastructure for tourists.
