A large tree branch snapped and fell on Jalan Raya Kuta during strong winds, striking two motorcycles and a car in the late afternoon. Authorities report no serious injuries.
KUTA, Bali — A sudden bout of strong winds on Tuesday afternoon caused a large tree branch to snap and fall onto one of Kuta’s main thoroughfares, damaging three vehicles during the busy late-afternoon period. The incident occurred around 3:20 PM local time on Jalan Raya Kuta, in front of the Meikari Japanese Food restaurant.
According to police, the falling branch struck two motorcycles and one car that were traveling southbound. The affected vehicles were identified as a white Filano motorcycle ridden by a woman, a black Honda Beat motorcycle ridden by an online ride-hailing driver, and a yellow Rocky SUV.
“Indeed, there was a natural disaster of strong winds that caused a tree branch to break on Jalan Raya Kuta,” confirmed Iptu Nyoman Wina, Head of the Traffic Unit for the Kuta Police Precinct, in a statement to detikBali.
Quick Response and Minor Injuries
Bystanders and other road users immediately assisted at the scene, helping to evacuate those involved and move the damaged motorcycles to a safer location. Police reported no fatalities. “In this incident, there were no fatalities, only material losses and the motorcycle riders suffered minor scrapes,” added Nyoman Wina.
To restore traffic flow, personnel from the Badung Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) arrived to cut up and remove the large branch from the roadway. Meanwhile, Kuta traffic police managed the congestion using a stop-and-go system from both directions until the debris was cleared.
The incident is the latest in a series of weather-related disruptions across Bali this week, underscoring the impact of the island’s volatile west season conditions, which can bring sudden, powerful gusts capable of causing property damage and travel hazards.
