HEYBALI – A late-night encounter outside a private home in Canggu has turned into a police investigation after CCTV footage allegedly showed a foreign man and two women engaging in a sexual act on a residential street.
The footage, which spread widely on social media, prompted police to visit the location and begin efforts to identify the three people involved.
Police Trace the CCTV Footage
North Kuta Police said officers have inspected the area around Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong, one of Canggu’s busiest streets, and collected information and potential evidence from the scene.
“We have visited the location and gathered information. Our criminal investigation unit is now carrying out further identification to determine the identities of the people involved,” North Kuta Police Chief Kompol I Ketut Sukadana said on Thursday, August 20.
The investigation began after an Instagram account, macchiatolatte13_, posted CCTV footage that appeared to show the incident outside the entrance of a local resident’s home.
Police said their cyber team reviewed the viral material before officers went to the location, including the property belonging to a resident identified by the initials NLM, 25.
The case is now being handled as a potential violation of Indonesia’s laws governing public decency.
CCTV Shows Money Changing Hands
According to Sukadana, the footage provides more than just images of the alleged sexual encounter.
Police said the recording appears to show the foreign man taking money from his wallet shortly before the sexual act took place.
“From the surveillance footage, there was clearly an interaction involving a money transaction before the indecent act occurred,” Sukadana said.
Police have not publicly described the nature of the transaction or established whether the money was connected to the sexual activity.
That distinction matters. At this stage, investigators are still working to identify the people involved and establish exactly what happened.
Three People Leave Canggu Together
After the incident, the two women reportedly left the area first, followed by the foreign man.
Police said the three then headed north along Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong, travelling together on a motorcycle.
Investigators are now looking for additional CCTV footage and other clues that could help establish their identities and movements after they left the property.
“We continue to collect evidence in the field so that the people involved can be identified and secured as soon as possible,” Sukadana said.
