HEYBALI – A quiet residential street in Canggu became the unlikely setting for a late-night incident after a local resident discovered a foreign man and two women allegedly engaging in a sexual act outside his home.
The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, August 20, on Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong in Canggu, North Kuta, Badung. The encounter was captured on CCTV and has since circulated widely online, prompting police to investigate.
Resident Heard Whispering Outside His Home
The homeowner, identified as Julianta, said he was preparing to go to sleep when he heard what sounded like people whispering outside.
Curious about the unusual noise at that hour, he checked his CCTV cameras.
What he saw was not what he expected.
The footage showed two local women and a foreign man gathered directly in front of his house. According to Julianta, the foreign man appeared to take money from his wallet before the alleged sexual activity took place.
“I saw clearly that there were two women and one foreign man. After seeing that, I immediately went outside,” Julianta said.
He decided to confront them rather than simply watch from inside.
They Were Confronted, Then Left on a Motorcycle
Julianta said he stepped outside and told the three people that the area was not an appropriate place for such behavior.
The group initially moved toward the road before turning into a small lane next to the house.
Julianta followed them and said the three appeared surprisingly unconcerned when confronted.
“He smiled, as if he had done nothing wrong,” Julianta said.
The three eventually left on a scooter, travelling north along Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong with all three riding together.
Julianta said the two women were not people he recognized from the neighborhood. Because the incident happened in darkness and the CCTV footage did not capture clear facial details or audio, he could not provide police with a definitive description of the three.
Why the CCTV Became the Key Evidence
Julianta later uploaded the footage to Instagram, saying he hoped making the incident public would discourage similar behavior.
He said the area outside his home has occasionally been used for inappropriate activities, including people urinating in public. But he considered this incident far beyond what he had previously experienced.
“Something strange like this had never happened before. This time it really went too far,” he said.
The incident caused no reported property damage or financial loss. Julianta nevertheless reported it to police.
Police Begin Investigation in Canggu
North Kuta Police have since visited the location and obtained the CCTV recording as part of their investigation.
Police are now working to establish the identities of the three people and determine exactly what happened that night.
“Personnel from North Kuta Police have checked the location. The case is still under investigation,” said Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, a public relations officer with Badung Police.
No arrests or identities have been announced.
For residents in Canggu, the incident is another example of how the area’s rapidly growing nightlife and tourism scene increasingly overlaps with ordinary residential streets, where people still expect a very different kind of night.
