Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono fainted during a somber service honoring three ministry employees who died in last week’s ATR 42-500 aircraft crash, highlighting the physical toll of the tragedy’s aftermath.
JAKARTA — Indonesian Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, collapsed during a memorial ceremony on Sunday, January 25, 2026, as he led a service for three ministry employees killed in a recent plane crash. The incident occurred at the Madidihang Auditorium in South Jakarta.
Minister Trenggono was presiding over the formal handover of the victims’ remains to their families when he fainted in front of the podium shortly after 9:20 AM local time. He was immediately assisted out of the auditorium to receive attention.
The ceremony honored Captain Andy Dahananto, the pilot of the ATR 42-500 aircraft that crashed into Mount Bulusaraung in Maros Regency, South Sulawesi, along with two other KKP employees who were on board, Ferry Irawan and Yoga Naufal.

Attributed to Exhaustion
Wakil Menteri (Deputy Minister) Didit Herdiawan Ashaf addressed the minister’s condition shortly after the incident.
“He has regained consciousness,” Didit confirmed to reporters at the location, as reported by detikNews. He attributed the collapse to sheer exhaustion. “It’s okay. He’s fatigued. Just fatigued,” Didit stated.
The minister’s sudden collapse underscored the intense physical and emotional strain on officials managing the response to the January 21st air disaster, which claimed the lives of all nine people on board. The ceremony was a solemn state event, reflecting the deep loss within the ministry’s community.
Minister Trenggono’s condition stabilized after receiving initial care. The memorial service continued, paying tribute to the victims of the crash that has sent shockwaves through Indonesia’s maritime and aviation sectors.
