CANGGU, Bali — Bali Police have arrested a 49-year-old Indonesian businessman less than 24 hours after a late-night shooting inside a popular entertainment venue in Canggu left a nightclub security guard and a foreign tourist from Morocco seriously injured, in a case that has renewed concerns over firearms and public safety in one of the island’s busiest tourism districts.

The suspect, identified by his initials H.S.H., was taken into custody through a joint operation involving Bali Police, Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, and immigration authorities at both Ngurah Rai International Airport and Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Investigators said the coordinated operation led to his arrest in less than a day after the incident.

According to police, the shooting occurred at approximately 2:50 a.m. on July 17 inside The Shady Pig, a nightlife venue on Jalan Pantai Berawa in Canggu, one of Bali’s most popular destinations for international visitors.

Investigators said the violence began when the suspect, who was allegedly intoxicated, became involved in a physical altercation with another patron seated near the DJ area. As security staff and bystanders stepped in to separate the fight, the suspect allegedly produced a handgun and fired a single shot.

The bullet struck a 32-year-old security guard in the left thigh before continuing and hitting a 25-year-old Moroccan national in the knee, according to the police investigation. Another witness suffered a head injury from shattered glass during the chaos but was not struck by gunfire. The two shooting victims were initially treated at a nearby clinic before being transferred to Lira Medika Hospital for further medical care.

Authorities described the shooting as an impulsive act fueled by anger and alcohol rather than a premeditated attack.

“The suspect was emotional and under the influence of alcohol,” police stated during a press briefing outlining the investigation.

During the arrest, investigators seized what they believe to be the weapon used in the shooting, including a Glock pistol, magazines, 12 rounds of ammunition, a suspected projectile recovered from the scene, CCTV footage, and firearm accessories.

Police have charged the suspect under Indonesia’s Criminal Code with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, an offense carrying a maximum prison sentence of 15 years, as well as causing serious bodily harm, which carries an additional sentence of up to five years if convicted.

Investigators said the case remains under active investigation as forensic examinations, witness interviews, and ballistic analysis continue.

The rapid arrest follows growing public attention to safety in Bali’s nightlife districts, where millions of international tourists visit every year. While shootings remain extremely rare on the island because of Indonesia’s strict firearms laws, police acknowledged that incidents involving illegal weapons pose a serious threat to public confidence and the tourism industry.

In a statement accompanying the investigation, Bali Police emphasized that crimes affecting public security, particularly those occurring in tourism hotspots, would be pursued aggressively.

Officials said maintaining a safe environment for both residents and international visitors remains a top priority as Bali continues to position itself as one of Asia’s leading travel destinations.

  • “Aku kepikiran jadi LC…”
mereka hanya sedang mencoba bertahan hidup. Dan di tengah situasi seperti itu, respons yang paling dibutuhkan bukan selalu penghakiman.
Kadang…
orang hanya ingin didengar tanpa direndahkan.
#Viral #LC #Kehidupan #RealitaHidup #AnakMuda #Ekonomi #ViralIndonesia #CeritaHidup #MentalHealth #Relationship #KehidupanKeras #Empati #BaliViralReporter #ViralBali #Indonesia #StoryOfTheDay #HumanStory #FYPIndonesia #TikTokIndonesia #FacebookViral #DramaKehidupan #KontenViral #Motivasi #RefleksiHidup #SocialIssue #LifeStory #ViralVideo #BaliToday #TrendingIndonesia
  • Nyesek banget. 🤢 #EsKepalCicak #ViralJijik #SafetyFirst #JajanBijak #balireporter
