Tabanan Police Chief AKBP I Putu Bayu Pati confirmed at a press conference held at Tabanan Police Headquarters on Sunday night, July 26, 2026, that KD, the man killed in Banjar Dinas Juwuk Legi, Batunya Village, Baturiti District, on Friday, July 24, had a documented criminal history stretching back nearly a decade.
A Pattern, Not an Isolated Incident
According to police records, KD was a repeat offender previously convicted of stealing cloves in a 2018 case handled by Tabanan Police. In an additional detail that has drawn attention, the motorbike he was riding on the night he died, the same one later set on fire by the crowd, had itself been stolen from neighboring Bangli Regency back in 2019.
“It’s true that he was a repeat offender and had previously committed similar crimes. However, our law enforcement response must remain proportionate regardless,” Bayu Pati said, a statement that reads as much as a legal principle as a factual disclosure.
Police also confirmed that on the night he died, KD was carrying two stolen chickens, along with a knife, a slingshot, and small stones. The specific breed of the chickens and their monetary value remain under investigation.
