Persistent heavy rainfall has caused knee-to-thigh-high flooding in several low-lying areas of the island, with debris blocking key roads and rendering some homes temporarily uninhabitable.

NUSA PENIDA, Bali — Significant flooding struck several coastal villages on Nusa Penida following heavy rain that began on Tuesday afternoon, January 20, 2026, leading to the evacuation of residents in the early hours of Wednesday.

Nusa Penida District Head, I Kadek Yoga Kusuma, confirmed the flooding to detikBali on Wednesday, stating that water inundated areas including Suana, Batununggul, Ped, Toyapakeh, and Sakti villages.

“In several locations, [the water] was up to knee-deep. But this morning it has already receded,” Kusuma said.

The village of Ped was reportedly the hardest hit. Its low-lying geography caused it to receive significant water runoff from higher surrounding areas. Kapolsek Nusa Penida, Kompol I Ketut Kesuma Jaya, stated that floodwaters in residential areas reached thigh-high on an adult, making some houses temporarily unusable.

“Upon receiving reports of flooding, we immediately deployed on-duty personnel to evacuate residents to safer places,” Jaya said.

The flooding also caused disruptions to local infrastructure. Sections of road along the route from Ped to Kutampi village were blocked by debris, including rubbish and tree branches carried by the currents. Authorities confirmed there were no fatalities as a result of the incident.

Travel Advisory for Visitors

This flooding event serves as a timely reminder for tourists and expatriates planning trips to Nusa Penida, especially during Bali’s current west season (musim barat), which is characterized by volatile and intense weather.

  • Check Conditions: Before traveling, verify current weather, sea conditions for the ferry crossing, and local road status on the island.
  • Exercise Caution: If travel proceeds, be prepared for potential delays, road closures, or detours due to flooding and debris. Never attempt to cross flooded roadways.
  • Stay Informed: Heed instructions from local authorities and ferry operators, who may delay or cancel services based on safety assessments.
  • Pack Accordingly: Waterproof bags for electronics and appropriate footwear are advisable during this season.

While the waters have begun to recede, cleanup and damage assessments are ongoing. Travelers are encouraged to plan flexibly and prioritize safety when visiting Indonesia’s smaller islands during periods of heavy rainfall.

Hey Bali News provides updates on local conditions to assist residents and visitors in making informed travel and safety decisions.

  • “Aku kepikiran jadi LC…”
mereka hanya sedang mencoba bertahan hidup.
Kadang…
orang hanya ingin didengar tanpa direndahkan.
#Viral #LC #Kehidupan #RealitaHidup #AnakMuda #Ekonomi #ViralIndonesia #CeritaHidup #MentalHealth #Relationship #KehidupanKeras #Empati #BaliViralReporter #ViralBali #Indonesia #StoryOfTheDay #HumanStory #FYPIndonesia #TikTokIndonesia #FacebookViral #DramaKehidupan #KontenViral #Motivasi #RefleksiHidup #SocialIssue #LifeStory #ViralVideo #BaliToday #TrendingIndonesia
  • Nyesek banget. 🤢 #EsKepalCicak #ViralJijik #SafetyFirst #JajanBijak #balireporter
#Bali #BaliNews #KutaUtara #Badung #SungaiBali #SempadanSungai #VillaBali #PembangunanBali #LingkunganBali #SaveBali #KrisisLingkungan #BaliUpdate #BeritaBali #BaliHariIni #IndonesiaNews #ViralNews #UrbanDevelopment #Overdevelopment #ProtectBali #heybali

Penyelidikan masih berlangsung, sementara motif serangan belum diketahui.
