Police are currently awaiting laboratory results on a single copper-colored bullet recovered as evidence from the scene of the shooting on Jalan Raya Berawa, North Kuta, Badung. The projectile, which passed through the thigh of security guard I.M.Y.M. before lodging in the thigh of a Chinese national identified as E.A., is now undergoing detailed analysis by the Bali Regional Police Forensic Laboratory (Bidlabfor) to help identify both the weapon used and its ownership.
Three Witnesses Questioned as Investigation Continues
The case, which briefly shook one of Bali’s most internationally frequented tourist areas, continues to move forward following the suspect’s arrest at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. To strengthen evidence surrounding both the sequence of events and the origin of the bullet, investigators from Badung Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) have so far questioned three witnesses.
“Several witnesses have been questioned. Three witnesses so far, and the bullet examination results are still pending from Bali Regional Police’s forensic laboratory,” said Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, Head of the Public Relations Sub-Section at Badung Police.
What’s Still Unknown
Police confirmed that further details regarding the suspect’s motive, along with the complete timeline of his escape attempt before his capture, will be disclosed in the near future. For now, investigators remain focused on gathering physical evidence and continuing their in-depth investigation.
“It will be conveyed directly by the Police Chief as soon as possible,” Inastuti said.
Background: A Rapid Arrest Across Two Cities
A joint team from North Kuta Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit and Badung Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit moved quickly following the shooting, coordinating with Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, and immigration officials at both Ngurah Rai and Soekarno-Hatta airports. H was intercepted and arrested shortly after arriving at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Saturday night, July 18, 2026. Following his arrest, he was immediately flown back to Bali to undergo intensive questioning at Badung Police Headquarters.
For now, the forensic results on the bullet remain the missing piece that could shape the next phase of the investigation, and with it, a clearer picture of how a night out in Canggu turned into gunfire.
