Golf athlete Jesslyn Wijaya reportedly fought back and screamed for help as she was allegedly abducted by a group of unidentified men at a restaurant in Central Jakarta, according to the family’s legal representative.
Andi Darti, lawyer for the party that filed the report, said the victim was attending her grandmother’s birthday celebration with family when she was suddenly restrained and forcibly taken by five unidentified, large-built men.
How the Abduction Unfolded
“The victim was heard screaming for help and attempted to get out of the vehicle, but was then forced back inside. The vehicle then left the location,” Andi said in a written statement, cited Monday, July 20, 2026.
According to eyewitness accounts, the abduction happened very quickly and appeared to have been planned, occurring just moments before the family celebration was set to begin. Two large-built men were reportedly the ones who physically carried the victim to the vehicle.
“According to witness accounts, just before the birthday celebration began, when all preparations were complete and the birthday song was about to play, the victim’s eyes were suddenly covered, and she was lifted and carried by two large-built men toward a black car,” Andi said. Witnesses at the scene reported approximately five unidentified men were present during the incident.
A CCTV System That Wasn’t Working
The restaurant reported that its surveillance cameras happened to be non-functional at the time of the incident. “When the location was checked, it was found that the restaurant’s CCTV footage was unavailable,” Andi said.
He said it is now up to police to determine whether the CCTV outage is connected to the alleged abduction. “The cause of that condition, and whether it is related to the incident under investigation, is entirely within the authority of investigators to examine based on valid evidence,” he added.
A colleague of the victim, identified by the initials NAH, 37, filed an official police report with Central Jakarta Metro Police on Thursday, July 16, 2026, registered under case number LP/B/2092/VII/2026/SPKT/POLRES METRO JAKPUS/POLDA METRO JAYA.
Phone Signal and a Possible Trip to Malaysia
Police have reportedly traced several locations potentially connected to the victim’s whereabouts, including visiting her apartment in Pluit, North Jakarta, though she has not yet been located.
Amid the search, the family’s legal team uncovered information suggesting the victim may have been heading to Malaysia. “Based on information obtained by the reporting party, there is an indication that on July 14, 2026, the victim traveled toward Malaysia via Semarang. This information still requires further verification by investigators,” Andi said.
At the same time, however, signal data from the victim’s phone showed coordinates still located in the Puri Jimbaran area of Pademangan, North Jakarta. Andi has asked police investigators to examine this discrepancy in order to establish the victim’s actual whereabouts.
Police Confirm Investigation Underway
Contacted separately, Central Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Chief AKBP Roby Hery Saputra confirmed his office had received the police report regarding the alleged kidnapping. “That’s correct, a report was filed with Central Jakarta Police. We are currently continuing our investigation to establish the facts,” Roby said.
For a case that has drawn attention well beyond Jakarta, the picture remains fragmented: conflicting signals point toward both an international border crossing and a location just kilometers from where the victim was last seen, leaving investigators the task of determining which lead, if either, reflects where Jesslyn Wijaya actually is.
