Zuleam Costinel Cosmin, a fugitive on an Interpol Red Notice for a violent 2023 homicide, was apprehended in North Kuta after a coordinated global police operation.
A long international manhunt ended quietly in Bali this week, when Indonesian authorities arrested a Romanian national wanted for a brutal murder that shocked his home country.
The suspect, Zuleam Costinel Cosmin, 33, was detained in Kerobokan, North Kuta, after Indonesian police confirmed his identity through international intelligence coordination. He had been listed on an Interpol Red Notice and was considered a fugitive since late 2023.
The arrest was carried out on Thursday, January 15, 2026, by a joint team from Indonesia’s National Central Bureau of Interpol, working alongside the Bali Regional Police and local law enforcement units in Denpasar and Gianyar. Officials said the operation proceeded without resistance.
Tracked Across Borders
According to Bali police spokesperson Commissioner Ariasandy, investigators moved swiftly after receiving credible information that the suspect was hiding in Bali.
The breakthrough came through intensive cross-border coordination among Interpol offices, including National Central Bureaus in Bucharest, Tashkent, Brussels, and other member countries. Once Cosmin’s location was verified, Indonesian authorities launched a targeted operation to apprehend him.
Following his arrest, Cosmin was placed in temporary detention at the general criminal investigation unit of the Bali Regional Police, where he remains under examination while awaiting further legal procedures.
A Case That Shocked Romania
Cosmin is the main suspect in a violent crime that occurred in Sibiu, Romania, on November 6, 2023. Prosecutors allege that he and two accomplices broke into the home of a local businessman, subjected the victim to severe physical abuse, and threatened the victim’s young daughter with a firearm.
During the attack, the group allegedly stole luxury watches valued at approximately €200,000. The assault ended in the victim’s death, turning the case into one of the most disturbing criminal incidents in Romania that year.
Cosmin’s two accomplices were later arrested in Ireland and Scotland. Both were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. Cosmin, however, managed to evade capture and fled across borders, prompting the Sibiu District Court to issue an arrest warrant on November 19, 2023, followed by an international Red Notice.
Extradition Process Underway
Indonesian police confirmed that Cosmin will remain in custody while administrative and legal requirements are completed. He is expected to be handed over to Romanian authorities through formal extradition procedures.
“This will be done through the extradition mechanism so that the suspect can be held accountable under Romanian law,” Commissioner Ariasandy said.

The case underscores Bali’s role not only as a global tourism hub but also as a transit point occasionally exploited by international fugitives seeking anonymity. Indonesian authorities have repeatedly stressed that cooperation with global law enforcement remains a priority, particularly as cross-border crime grows more complex.
