A Turkish national identified by his initials OSA, 49, who struck five vehicles and injured seven people in North Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali, has been officially named a suspect. The designation followed a police investigation into the series of collisions that occurred on Jalan Mertasari, Kerobokan Kelod Village, Badung, on the night of Monday, July 13, 2026.
Acting Public Relations Sub-Section Head of Badung Police, Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, confirmed the foreign national’s legal status. “Yes, that’s correct, he has been named a suspect. He is currently being detained at Badung Police Headquarters,” Ayu said when confirmed on Friday, July 17, 2026.
Charges Filed
According to Ayu, OSA has been charged under Article 310, Paragraph (3), subsidiary to Paragraph (2), and/or Article 312 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation.
These articles pertain to traffic accidents resulting in injured victims and a driver’s obligation to render assistance to victims. “The maximum penalty is five years’ imprisonment,” Ayu said.
How the Incident Unfolded
OSA had been driving a Daihatsu Rocky, license plate DK 1882 ACL, recklessly, striking five vehicles before fleeing the scene.
The incident began when OSA was driving from Seminyak toward Canggu on Jalan Mertasari at approximately 7:15pm. He attempted to overtake a Honda Scoopy motorcycle ahead of him but failed to maintain a safe distance, clipping the motorcycle.
OSA continued driving north, and at a different location still on Jalan Mertasari, his vehicle crossed the road marking and struck a Yamaha NMAX motorcycle traveling in the opposite direction. Shortly after, his car collided with a Suzuki APV traveling in the same direction ahead of him.
OSA then continued onto Jalan Kedampang, where he struck a Honda PCX motorcycle. Despite having hit multiple vehicles, he did not stop and continued fleeing.
Caught by Residents
Residents who witnessed the incident gave chase and eventually stopped OSA’s vehicle on Jalan Batu Bidak VIII, Gang Manggis. The driver was then apprehended and handed over to police.
Seven people were injured in the series of collisions and are being treated at hospital.
