Caleb Shomo, the 33-year-old frontman of the American rock band Beartooth, has announced that he is gay. He is married to a woman. And she has publicly supported him.
The revelation, shared in a lengthy Instagram post, has drawn attention far beyond the band’s metalcore fanbase. Not because a musician came out. But because of how his wife responded.
“I am proud to be a gay man,” Shomo wrote. “This is something I have been thinking about and facing in my life for some time.”
For fans who have followed Beartooth since its early years, Shomo’s music has always been raw. Four albums exploring depression, self-hatred, religious background, and despair. He called them “deeply self-deprecating.”
But the private struggle behind those songs, he admitted, was something he kept hidden.

“It is very difficult to navigate the feelings around this subject and figure out what to do with this fact,” he wrote.
His announcement was not a response to rumours, he said, but a decision to stop letting speculation shape his life.
