A 33-year-old Romanian man, wanted for a brutal home invasion robbery and murder in his home country, was arrested in Bali following a coordinated international operation and flown back to Europe under escort.
DENPASAR, Bali — A high-priority fugitive sought across Europe was deported from Bali on Thursday, concluding an international manhunt that led authorities to the Indonesian island. Zuleam Costinel Cosmin, a 33-year-old Romanian national on Interpol’s red notice list, was escorted onto a flight to Doha, en route to Bucharest, his hands secured in restraints and accompanied by immigration and police officers.
The arrest, carried out on January 15 by Bali Police in coordination with the Indonesian National Police’s International Relations Division and Interpol, ended a months-long search. Cosmin was wanted in connection with a violent home invasion in Romania in early November 2023. According to Bali Police Director of General Crime, Commissioner I Gede Adhi Mulyawarman, Cosmin and two accomplices are accused of torturing a local businessman to death during a robbery, threatening the victim’s daughter with a firearm, and stealing a luxury watch valued at approximately 200,000 euros.
The Trail to Bali and a Social Media Misstep
Cosmin initially entered Indonesia through Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on November 14, 2023, arriving from China. Authorities tracked his movements to Bali, where he led a discreet life, frequently changing residences and living off the income of his wife—an Indonesian national who was reportedly unaware of his fugitive status, according to police statements. His attempt to leave the island via a booked flight from Denpasar to Kuala Lumpur was unsuccessful as he was not cleared through immigration.
His critical mistake, however, was digital. Investigators from the Indonesian National Central Bureau of Interpol identified Cosmin’s location after spotting posts on his personal Facebook account, triggering the coordinated operation that led to his capture in Bali. His two alleged accomplices had previously been arrested in Ireland and Scotland.

The successful deportation underscores the active cooperation between Indonesian authorities and international law enforcement networks.
